Waverly (Iowa) Waverly-Shell Rock four-star linebacker Asa Newsom received an offer from Kentucky on Wednesday night. He announced the news over social media.

Newsom is the No. 584 overall prospect and No. 57 linebacker in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 6 player in Iowa.

On3 rates Newsom higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Per the 2023 On300, he is the No. 206 overall prospect, No. 20 linebacker and No. 3 player in Iowa.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound prospect has received eight offers. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Iowa holds a close lead for his pledge at 35.4%.

RPM was released to the public in December. The On3 engineering group teamed up with Spiny.ai to create the industry’s first algorithm and machine learning-based product to predict where athletes will attend college.

It factors in machine learning, social sentiment, visits and historical trends. However, expert predictions are still a big piece of the RPM equation.

The Wildcats do not have any commitments in their 2024 recruiting class. Meanwhile, Kentucky’s 2023 class is No. 39 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 13 in the SEC.

Newsom has an On3 NIL Valuation of $14.5K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Asa Newsom On3 Scouting Summary

The following is the On3 Scouting Summary for Asa Newsom:

“Lengthy linebacker prospect who plays with instincts and field vision that closes to the ball with ferocity. Ran freakish track times during his junior track and field season with a 49.84 400m and a 56.20 in the 400m hurdles. Tremendous build with plenty of room to fill out. Reads and reacts hastily and is quick to trigger downhill. Lacks pop and power when stacking and shedding in the box but is physically capable. High NFL upside due to overall athletic ability and size. Dominant basketball player as well.”
