Redshirt junior Jalen Geiger had started strong for Kentucky football over their first two games. However, the Wildcat corner was injured last night in their 26-16 win over Florida. It didn’t look good as he was carted off the field and, based on Mark Stoops’ diagnosis, it doesn’t sound much better.

Stoops spoke on Geiger’s injury during his presser after the win in Gainesville. He said he doesn’t expect Geiger back soon as the injury ‘doesn’t look good’.

“It’s a lower leg injury. I’m not really allowed to comment. I’ll tell you whether he’s out for a while or not. It doesn’t look good,” said Stoops. “I feel for Jalen. He’s a heck of a young man and has been playing really good football.”

Geiger finished with three total tackles against Florida before his injury. He also had four total tackles against Miami (OH) last weekend. In a Kentucky secondary that still had some question marks entering the season, losing a player like Geiger for significant time could be a problem. They’ll have to start game planning without him, though, with Youngstown State coming to Lexington next weekend.

Kentucky defensive back Jalen Geiger carted off the field

Kentucky has done a good job holding Florida back defensively, only giving up three points early in the second quarter. However, it seems as if the Wildcats will be down a man going forward in the secondary.

A blindside block was thrown by the Gators, with defensive back Jalen Geiger being on the receiving end. As the ESPN broadcast was going to commercial, a medical cart was shown entering the field to pick Geiger up. Coming back from break, no update was not given.

Geiger was a key player for Kentucky in the season-opening win over Miami, having four tackles from the outside. He was also a starter in the game, meaning the Wildcats are losing a good one during Saturday’s game.

Geiger was later seen on crutches and in a brace on the sideline. Kentucky head coach Mike Stoops said it could be a serious injury and is potentially “worried” for the defensive back.
