When a team puts together a highly successful season by winning many games and competing for championships, it almost always comes with staff changes in the offseason. While the head coach usually stays put, multiple assistant coaches – from coordinators to position coaches – will receive job offers to move up the NFL ladder by working for another team.

As the Los Angeles Rams have been successful during the 2021-22 season and will be competing for Super Bowl 56 on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals, Rams’ head coach Sean McVay could have to hire multiple new assistant coaches during the offseason – and one of them could be coming from Kentucky.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Wildcats’ offensive coordinator Liam Coen – who previously served as the Rams’ quarterbacks coach – is a “prime candidate” to replace outgoing Los Angeles OC Kevin O’Connell in the role. O’Connell is set to be hired as the new head coach of the Minnesota Vikings.

Coen, 36, was in his first season with Kentucky in 2021 – and the Wildcats’ offense averaged 31.8 points and 425.2 yards per game under his direction.

Kentucky set to hire NFL assistant as offensive line coach

Kentucky is expected to hire San Francisco 49ers assistant offensive line coach Zach Yenser as the Wildcats’ new offensive line coach, according to Kentucky Sports Radio. Yenser – a Fort Mitchell, Kentucky native – recently completed his third season with the 49ers and is now set to make the move to Lexington.

Prior to Yenser’s time in San Francisco, he spent the 2015-17 seasons as the run game coordinator and offensive line coach at Kansas. Yenser was also the offensive line coach at Cal from 2013-14 and worked in various roles at Louisiana Tech from 2010-12.

Yenser is set to replace Eric Wolford, who recently left Kentucky to become Alabama’s offensive line coach under head coach Nick Saban.
