After throwing for 24 touchdowns and nearly 3,000 yards, Kentucky quarterback Will Levis is back in the saddle for his senior season in Lexington. With preseason mock drafts tabbing him as a potential first-round pick, there’s a lot at stake this season for Levis. To him, though, it’s all about accomplishing the Wildcat program’s goals this season.

In an appearance on Pardon My Take’s takeover of Kentucky Sports Radio this week, Levis says one of those goals is an SEC Championship.

“That’s the goal,” said Levis. “That’s what our hearts are set on and that’s what’s been established from day one of the offseason.”

It’s safe to say Kentucky would have their fair share of doubters on the way to achieving that. The Wildcats haven’t won the conference crown this century and the path to doing so isn’t getting any easier. Even fans of the program are skeptical about the Wildcat’s chances to even get to Atlanta. For Levis, he’s happy to take the extra motivation.

“The fans who say that we’re not going to be as good as last year, that we’re lacking leadership from a senior standpoint. I’m definitely going to be stepping in and making sure I’m the guy for the team,” he said. “We definitely have other guys that can do that. But, hey, motivation, especially from our fans who are doubting us, is as much motivation that we can get.”

One reason Levis’ confidence is so high is because it’s rooted in Mark Stoops’ program. In nine years as head coach, Stoops has led to UK to winning seasons in five of them with them all coming in the last six years. It has translated into postseason success as well with six straight bowl game appearances and four straight wins.

If they continue to trust Stoops’ process, Levis says it will get them where they want to go.

“I think everyone just needs to take a chill pill and let the guys do what we’ve been doing. Obviously Coach Stoops, since he has brought the program to where it is, we’ve been able to bring it to a new level. We’re just trying to increase that standard,” he said. “We’re coming in every day to make sure that everything that we do is in line with that standard. It has worked so far. As long as we keep working the way that we have been, then things are all gonna work out.”

Levis and his Wildcat teammates will start that improbable run to the SEC Championship game on September 3rd when they open their season against Miami (OH) at Kroger Field.
