Kentucky quarterback Will Levis offered his opinion on Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett‘s controversial fake slide play that resulted in him scoring a touchdown. Levis joked about people calling the move “unfair” in a post on Twitter, saying that he thought it was an incredible play.

“I’ve taken time to think about Kenny Pickett and ‘Slidegate,'” stated Levis. “My official opinion at this time is that it is completely unfair (pause for effect) for him to have the balls to even attempt that. Such a sick play that will, no doubt, go down in history.”

While Levis is clearly a fan of his fellow quarterback’s highlight reel play, opinions around the nation have varied greatly.

Early in the first quarter against Wake Forest, Pickett scrambled for a first down and began to slide to the ground around the Wake Forest 40-yard line. However, as he saw that the last defender to beat was right in front of him, Pickett never actually went down to the ground and used the hesitation of the defense to sprint by for a 58-yard touchdown run.

The play drew praise and criticism alike, with fans claiming it was a convincing fake and athletic. Critics claimed it was an unfair position to put defenders in because any defender that committed to tackling a sliding quarterback risks a penalty for the hit.

Levis appears to be on the side that believes it was an incredible play that will live on in highlight reels. The Kentucky star went on to say he hoped the rules are changed going forward solely to immortalize Pickett’s play.

“To be clear, I do wish that it be outlawed. (Not for the safety/integrity of the game, but just so that he can say ‘I changed college football forever’ for the rest of his life).”

“Also, don’t get your hopes up about me trying it,” Levis closed with another joke. “I need to learn how to slide before I learn how to fake slide.”
