Louisville ended a 10-game losing streak that started back before Christmas with their 68-58 victory over Georgia Tech on Wednesday night. It was the Cardinal’s first ACC win of what has been a very long first season so far for Kenny Payne. However, after knocking off the Yellow Jackets, Payne continued to express his faith in the fact that Louisville will start to get things right soon.

Payne spoke about that divine belief during his postgame press conference. He said his road didn’t bring him back home just to lose every game. He still trusts that Louisville is going to be back in its rightful place at some point during his tenure.

“I pray to God every day that we can get this back on track. And I know that we will,” said Payne. “I know God didn’t take me through this journey just to get back here and (we) lose every game.”

“We’re going to be alright, we’re going to figure it out. We’re going to get this program back,” Payne said.

While things have been bleak over Louisville’s season where they’re now just 3-19, there wasn’t much light at the end of the tunnel either. The Cardinals had lost several games, including to mid-majors, by a wide margin this year. They had reached the point of determining how many wins they’d be able to manage within the ACC, if any.

That all changed, though, against Georgia Tech. The Cardinals won by double-digits by shooting 45.7% and holding the Yellow Jackets to 29.5%. While they still lost the turnover battle by 10, Louisville offset that by hammering them on the glasa by 14.

The case could be made that this could be one of Louisville’s final few wins of the ’22-’23 season. Still, that’s not a cause of concern for Payne considering where he sees their trajectory. He sees growth and he still has faith in the direction they’re being led which, at this point, is all that matters to him as he continues to build his program.
