There is more breaking news coming out of the ongoing saga between the Louisville Cardinals men’s basketball team and coach Chris Mack. Earlier reports came out on Tuesday surrounding Mack and the program from Pat Forde of Sports Illustrated. He said Mack’s future was being discussed” by school leadership at Louisville. Nothing had been finalized at the time but a potential move could be made soon. Those reports have since then been confirmed and the two are working on a formal divorce.

The split between the two will still cost and we have an idea of how much Louisville will have to dish out. According to Matt Norlander, sources close to the team believe a buyout is in the works for Mack.

“Source: Chris Mack’s pending settlement w/ Louisville negotiated to $4.8 million. The details are being finalized as we speak and need to be voted and approved by U of L’s Board of Trustees and the Louisville Athletic Association,” wrote Norlander via Twitter.

The original buyout was a cool $12 million heading into this season. And although Mac is getting roughly 40% of the originally agreed number, $4.8 million is not a bad way to walk away from the program.
