Louisville took care of business during their three-game home stand going undefeated, but now face a trio of opponents that are currently ranked, two of which are on the road, to close out the season. The Cardinal’s final stretch of games starts with a visit to Clemson, and head coach Scott Satterfield spoke about how he’s preparing his teams for one of the most hostile environments in the country.

“Yeah we’ll certainly turn our music up, turn our noise up when we’re working throughout practice,” Satterfield said. “And really it’s just the offense, the defense it’s normally quiet when they’re out there on the field.”

Aside from cranking up the music and blaring simulated crowd noise through the speakers at practice, the Cardinal’s offense will also be preparing for the worst-case scenario in Death Valley this Saturday, if they cannot hear the quarterback.

“And offensively we’ll do that, we’ll work some different ways of running our cadence, because sometimes the lineman can’t hear a cadence, and so they have to go silent cadence, so we’ll work on that as well and get used to that,” Satterfield said.

Louisville has some experience in this department, but not yet this season in a place like Memorial Stadium that holds 80,000 plus fans.

“And we’ve been fortunate the last three weeks, we didn’t need it but we do now and we had to use this at Syracuse and we did, we had a few false start penalties there,” Satterfield said. “But hopefully, we’ve learned and we’ll be a lot better at that this week.”

The Cardinals will have to beat the Tigers and beat the noise this weekend if they want to leave Clemson win, which is a tall task, as the Tigers are undefeated in their last ten home games.

Scott Satterfield previews preparing for two Clemson QBs

The Louisville Cardinals are looking to extend their four-game winning streak this weekend as they pay a visit to Dabo Swinney and Clemson this weekend. The Tigers are fresh off of their first loss of the season, losing in blowout, upset fashion to Notre Dame 35-14. That game featured starting quarterback DJ Uiagalelei as well as freshman Cade Klubnik briefly, who has received some occasional playing time for the Tigers lately. Cardinals head coach Scott Satterfield was asked if he was preparing for both quarterbacks and the challenges that presents.

“Yeah, but still you have to prepare for what they do offensively,” Satterfield said. “Those two players are different themselves, but they’re still gonna run inside zone, still gonna inside zone read, some of their pass patterns that are gonna be running.”

Satterfield seems more focused on the scheme of the Tiger’s offensive versus who will be under center, which may be the Cardinal’s best bet. Klubnik only appeared on one drive last week for the Tigers, throwing just one pass attempt that was intercepted for a touchdown. And even versus Syracuse the week prior when Klubnik took a majority of the second half snaps for the Tigers he only threw four pass attempts, completing two of them for just 19 yards.

“You’ve still gotta be fundamentally sound, I think depending on who’s in the game you can maybe tweak how your calls are gonna be, but you’re still going to prepare for that offense the same way and you’ve just gotta be fundamentally sound,” Satterfield said.
