Louisville QB battle: Jeff Brohm reaffirms belief in Miller Moss amid struggles

Louisville QB Miller Moss just had one of his worst performances of the season, with him having had a few of those now for the Cardinals. With that, Jeff Brohm is going to keep believing in him, but while also not fully dismissing a change at quarterback if need be.
Brohm was asked during his press conference on Monday if, pending another bad outing for Moss, Louisville would look to a backup, specifically naming either of Brady Allen or Deuce Adams.
“Well, we believe in Miller, and we believe in all of our quarterbacks,” Brohm said. “We’ll always have a plan ready for all of them at some point, in different aspects, which we’ve done before. At the same time, you know, he’s got to continue to work through these things and be as effective as we can.
“Without question, there’s always a plan to help us win, so we’ll have that ready to go.”
In the 29-26 overtime loss to Cal on Saturday night, Moss was 20-38 (52.6%) for 203 yards, no touchdown throws, while he did rush for one, and a pick, and he took two sacks against the Golden Bears. It represented some of his worst quarterback statistics this season, including a season-low in completion rate. It was also his third straight game with an interception, as he has thrown at least one in two-thirds of their games and at least one in five of their six matchups in conference play.

With that, Moss, on the season, is posting 63.8% completion for 236.9 passing yards per game with 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions. That brings him to 18 total touchdowns and nine total turnovers, equaling a ratio of 2:1, when adding up his rushing numbers as well.
Now, up to two losses now, both in conference play, Louisville can’t afford another, especially with difficult-enough games left against Clemson on Friday night as well as at SMU and against Kentucky, if they want to have any hope of making the CFP. That means that they also can’t afford another one of those kinds of outings from Moss, with that bringing about the question of backup quarterback in either Allen, the redshirt junior, or Adams, the redshirt freshman.
The Cardinals hopefully won’t have to answer any of those, assuming they don’t see any more bad games from Moss. But, even if they do, Brohm says, if it comes to this, that they’ll have something ready quarterback-wise regardless in order for their team to avoid that third loss this fall.
