The Louisville Cardinals have absolutely dominated Florida State in the opening quarter on the road. They kicked off their impressive start with this 59-yard bomb on their opening drive.

It took the Cardinals just four plays on their opening drive to set the tone in the first quarter of the game. After converting a long third-and-nine the play before, Louisville came out in a wishbone style formation with four in the backfield including the quarterback. Harrell lined up tight to the line of scrimmage on the left side alone. When the ball was hiked, he shot down the field on a skinny post route, flying by all the Florida State would-be defenders to make the catch for six.

Cardinals and Seminoles on opposite poles

The Cardinals and the Seminoles enter today’s game on two different trajectories so far in the season. After dropping their season opener against Ole Miss in an offensive explosion, Louisville has bounced back with two straight wins. In those two games, they have had over 400 yards in total offense in both games and have averaged 36 points.

For Florida State, they are off to a historically bad start to the season. The Seminoles are off to their worst start in almost 50 years. This is the program’s first 0-3 start since 1976. Florida State barely lost their season opener in an overtime thriller to no. 12 Notre Dame 41-30. Since then, the Seminoles have suffered two losses at the hands of Jacksonville State and Georgia Tech. Against Jacksonville State, it was a last-second Hail Mary attempt as time expired that knocked off the Seminoles.

Right now, the Louisville Cardinals are leading the Florida State Seminoles 24-7 mid-way through the second quarter. If they hang on for the win, Louisville will send their bitter rival to the worst start in program history.
