Brian Kelly and Kayshon Boutte are already working on their relationship. As the new LSU leader attempts to make his mark on the program, he delivered a troubling update on his relationship with the Tigers star wide receiver.

“I would say I know his last name right now,” Kelly said, via Billy Embody of The Bengal Tiger. “I say that only because we are in that process of, he’s re-engaging. He’s been injured. He’s had a second surgery, but we are getting more acquainted every day.”

Continuing, Kelly stated that Boutte and his injury are improving every day as they move forward, and the LSU coach is seeing some good things.

“Look, he’s a great player. He’s a good kid,” Kelly said. “But this has been a rough spot for him. What happens is you tend to get distracted because you are not involved in everything. He’s learning that he has to be involved in everything whether you are injured or not. That’s a process he’s going through. And we are seeing some really good changes.”

Moreover, Boutte is in a walking boot for the beginning of spring practice on Thursday. While the star wide receiver won’t be on the field, he’s soaking up all the knowledge he can in the meantime.

“We had a nice conversation in the training room this morning where he is on top of his academics and he is making good progress,” Kelly explained. “The good part about it is that the surgery was successful, he’s making good progress. He’s in a walking boot right now. That’s really the most important thing. The rest of this stuff, we will work it out between the two of us. I’m not that hardheaded. He’s a good player.”

Brian Kelly provides LSU injury update: ‘Looks really good, you know, going into the spring.’

Moreover, Brian Kelly is preparing for his first season as the leader of the LSU Tigers. While embellished accents and funky dance moves have been popularized, the former Notre Dame coach is still doing his work on the football field.

Ahead of spring practice for the Tigers, Kelly provided an overall injury update on his LSU team.

“From an injury standpoint, we’ve got — you know, I would say Armoni Goodwin is going to be back,” started Kelly. “He’s healthy. I mean, I know he’s a guy that’s been out for awhile. From a defensive standpoint, I think we look pretty good across the board. Other than Major Burns will probably, with his foot, not be available for us, for most of the spring. Garrett Dellinger is coming back from shoulder surgery. He won’t be available for us. But, it looked like a very mash kind of list when I got here — looks really good, you know, going into the spring. In terms of having a number of players available.

“And of course, you’ll get access on that first day to kind of pull out your sheets and check off the numbers. So, I’m sure you’ll report back to me moving forward, who i missed, because I don’t pay attention to that stuff. So, you’ll tell me why wasn’t somebody out there. We’ll play that game after the first practice.”

As you can see, Brian Kelly believes LSU is in relatively good-standing when it comes to injuries at the moment. It’s never been more important for Tigers athletes to be healthy and learn what the former Notre Dame coach is attempting to implement, so it’s great news for everyone that things are looking up.
