Four-star safety Ryan Yaites of Denton (Texas) Guyer High announced his commitment to LSU Friday morning.

The 6-foot-1, 175 pounder chose the Tigers over Michigan State, Texas Tech, and Cal.

Yaites discussed his decision to ultimately choose LSU.

LSU checked every box for Yaites

“People keep asking me that (why I chose LSU) and all I can say is they filled in the checklist when looking for a school,” Yaites said. “I was looking for a great foundation and with me graduating early at 17, that’s something not only me, but what my parents are looking for.”

“Not only that, but watching coach (Kerry) Cooks and the way they run their defense I can see why they’re called DBU,” the Texas corner said. “And that’s something not only me, but any DB looking to play in a SEC school should look for. But all in all, filling the checks was key.”

Opportunity to play in LSU’s environment is a dream come true

“It will be a dream come true to play there,” Yaites said. “I remember walking into Death Valley, and it was just a different type of energy. The fans were LOUD, people were going crazy, and I wasn’t even on the field.”

“Guys on the side knew who I was and were dabbing me up and were becoming a tiger,” Yaites said. “Now after making this decision I’ll be able to play on the field. The fans keep the tiger pride alive and I can’t wait to ball out for them.”

He ranks as the No. 181 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally-weighted industry generated average that accounts for all four major recruiting services. Yaites also tabs in at the No. 12 safety and the No. 32 player in the state of Texas.

Ryan Yaites is the second defensive back to commit to LSU this week, joining safety Michael Daugherty, who committed on Wednesday. He also joins WR Omarion Miller and TE Mac Markway in the Tiger’s top 10 class nationally in the 2023 team rankings.
