Garrett Nussmeier injury update: LSU QB suffers setback, probable vs. Arkansas

LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier suffered an injury in practice on Thursday, according to interim head coach Frank Wilson. The setback has Nussmeier listed as “probable,” and his status for Week 12 vs. Arkansas is up in the air.
The specific injury was not stated. However, Wilson made it seem as though his QB’s ailment isn’t something new.
“A little nagging injury reoccurred itself with Garrett Nussmeier today,” Wilson said on Thursday. “And so, I think he’s probable. A little bit concerning, something that we need to monitor and continue to watch with him as we head into the game.”
Nussmeier’s injury comes at a time after he was benched during the third quarter of LSU’s Week 11 loss to Alabama. Michael Van Buren replaced Nussmeier and finished the game. On Monday, Wilson revealed that LSU planned to play both quarterbacks against the Razorbacks this weekend. However, that plan may be derailed due to Nussmeier’s injury.
Before being taken out of the game, he completed 18-of-his-21 pass attempts for 121 yards. Van Buren completed 5-of-his-11 pass attempts for 52 yards after replacing the LSU starter.

Wilson cited a spark and something that would “add another dimension” to the Tigers’ game. He said Van Buren provided both of those qualities to his offense.
This season, Van Buren has thrown 224 yards on 18 of 27 passing for two touchdowns. The sophomore transfer from Mississippi State threw for nearly 2,000 yards during his lone season with the Bulldogs and 16 total touchdowns, including five on the ground. However, he threw 11 touchdowns compared to seven interceptions.
While it remains to be seen if this injury will keep Nussmeier out for Saturday’s game, the fifth-year QB is out of eligibility. That means when the season is ended, his college career is over. Bowl eligibility is one win away for the Tigers, and Nussmeier would likely want to end his college career out on a high note.
LSU will square off against Arkansas at 12:45 p.m. ET on Saturday. The game will air live on the SEC Network. After Saturday, Tigers will round out its regular season with matchups against Western Kentucky and a ranked Oklahoma team on the road.
