After missing the final two games of the regular season, LSU running back Josh Williams is bullish on his prospects for coming back against Georgia in the SEC Championship game. The redshirt junior is the second-leading rusher for the Tigers and the top running back — quarterback Jayden Daniels leads the team in rushing.

Williams hurt his knee in Week 11 against Arkansas, sidelining him for a win against UAB and a loss in the finale to Texas A&M. From what he said, it sounds like it’ll be his call if he gives it ago against Georgia.

I talked to the training staff. They basically said it’s based on how I feel, how I want to go forward with it,” Williams said. “I’m feeling better than I did last week, I’ve been progressing every day. I started running last week. I’ve been doing well starting today even, I’m excited to see how well I progress. I’m pretty confident that I’m going to make an appearance in the game. I just want to put it in God’s hands and see how it goes.”

While Daniels is comfortably the leading rusher for LSU, Williams is the clear-cut lead back in terms of carries. Despite playing in 10 games, he finished the regular season with 91 carries for 477 yards. The next closest was John Emery Jr. who tallied 66 carries for 324 yards, although he did play in just nine games.

Williams shared that he recently started running on grass more, a positive sign he’s nearing the end of his recovery. He also added that the desire was to make sure he’d be good to go for LSU in the SEC Championship game.

“My knee is doing better than it was last week. I started running more on the grass. The coaches wanted to hold me back, make sure they played it smart for this week. So this week I’m feeling better and progressing for this weekend,” Williams said.
