Lane Kiffin has spent 24 hours in Baton Rouge, and he’s already channelling his inner Ed Orgeron. The new LSU coach revealed that Coach O was one of the first people he reached out to upon arriving on campus.

“We were going by Tiger Stadium. I called on person, I called Ed Orgeron. I said, ‘Hey, man, this place just makes me want to talk like you right now.’ I did,” Kiffin said. “We were in the car, and the kids were in there, and I was like, and the coaches and what are you doing? I’m like, I don’t know. I’m like, channeling Ed right now.

“I was like, I’m feeling him. Like, I rolled down the window, and I was like, ‘Go Tigers!’ to the fans. So I called Ed, I said, ‘I don’t know what’s going on, man, but I’m feeling you right now.'”

Kiffin said that Orgeron told him that he’s at the best university in America. “I feel that,” Kiffin responded.

He said that he felt that power from the moment he landed. Driving past Tiger Stadium for the first time as head coach, and then seeing the facility for the first time is something Kiffin spoke highly of on Monday.

“You walk in like, God, it’s like, we’re in the NFL. Like, everything is so amazing in that facility, and it’s so powerful,” Kiffin said. “The national championships and the Heisman trophies and the way the whole building is done. “You’re just reminded that you’re at the elite program in all of college football.”

He posted pictures of his walkthrough of the LSU facility, including pictures of the most recent national championship trophies, as well as several Heisman Trophy awards that Tigers of the past have won while with the program. It’s safe to say that he hopes, and is expected to, add to those trophy cases by the time Kiffin’s tenure is through.

Kiffin’s hire at LSU ends a several-weeks long question over whether Kiffin will remain at OIe Miss or move on to another program like Florida or LSU. In the end, LSU was the choice and Kiffin believes he has the resources in place to take the Tigers to a national championship — which LSU did under Orgeron in 2019-20
