LSU defensive end Andre Anthony suffered a left leg injury in the Central Michigan game.

Check out the video below.

The injury was a non-contact injury which made Anthony clutch his left knee as he went to the ground. LSU freshman Mason Smith is now playing in the Central Michigan game in Anthony’s place.

If the injury is serious, it would be a crushing blow to the Tiger defense. Anthony led the Tigers in sacks in 2020 with 5.5. In 2020, he had a career best six tackles and a sack against Vanderbilt.

The talented defensive end had his first career touchdown with the Tigers tonight, a 33-yard scoop and score.

Dominating in LSU scrimmages

Anthony was one of the players that was cited by head coach Ed Orgeron in LSU’s scrimmages in fall camp. He’s one of the most dominant pass rushers on the roster and his loss would be a significant one if he has to miss time.

Notes from first LSU scrimmage

One of the first units Orgeron talked about when discussing the scrimmage was the defensive line and the amount of pressure they put on the quarterback.

“I thought our defense tackled very well,” Orgeron said.” “We put a lot of pressure on the quarterback.”

He couldn’t stop raving about the defensive line and mentioned several Tiger defensive linemen specifically in his press conference, including Andre Anthony.

“I thought that overall it was a great scrimmage–mostly dominated by the defense and the quickness of the defensive line. We had Ali Gaye back. Andre Anthony had a good day. Neil Farrell, Jr. had a good day. A lot of guys ran around and played well.”

He went on to mention Ali Gaye and Andre Anthony, “I thought those guys did a tremendous job in pass rush today.”

High School bio

Anthony was one of the top defensive end prospects in America coming out of Edna Karr High School in New Orleans, Louisiana. He also played at Miller-McCoy Academy before transferring to Edna Karr as a senior. He was listed as a four-star prospect coming out of high school according to major recruiting services. The talented defensive end racked up 56 tackles and eight sacks as a senior in 2015. He led Edna Karr to the 2015 4A state championship game, where the Cougars would lose. At the end of his high school career, he was selected to play in the Under Armour All-American Game.
