LSU head coach Ed Orgeron provided an update on the injuries ailing two of his stars, cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. and running back Tyrion Davis-Price.

First, Stingley Jr. hasn’t practiced much this preseason due to an undisclosed injury. However, Orgeron was steadfast in his assessment, unworried that the cornerback could miss the Tigers opening game against UCLA.

“Derek’s doing fine,” Orgeron said, via LSU Sports on YouTube. “I think we’re going to lay off him next week. The week after, he should be fine. I think he’ll be 100%, we won’t have to worry about re-aggravating it.”

The news on Stingley Jr. sounds good, as Orgeron isn’t sweating it. Continuing, he also spoke on the minor injury his running back has been dealing with recently.

“Ty [Davis-Price] ran yesterday, he had some good plays,” said Orgeron. “Came in yesterday, had some good plays and some good runs. Kinda tweaked it again today. Something that we’ll have to monitor throughout the whole year.”

While Orgeron states the injury is something the Tigers may have to keep an eye on, it sounds like Davis-Price is healthy enough to still have an impact. This season, Davis-Price projects to share the backfield with John Emery, making up a formidable running back tandem.

This summer has been tough on LSU with injuries, as they’ve already lost their starting quarterback Myles Brennan for most of the season. Luckily, it seems as if Stingley Jr. and Davis-Price will be ready to go, according to Orgeron.

Moreover, Orgeron provided an update on the injured Brennan on Wednesday night.

“I don’t wanna say nothing prematurely, you know he’s just getting over the pain,” Orgeron said. “He’s getting able to where he’s coming back around.

“Obviously, it was emotional for him. I think they’re going to try to put the pads on him as soon as they can, maybe start throwing the ball in a month or something. I’m not in a hurry. I’m not gonna rush him. I want him to be ready.”

Orgeron added that Brennan could be back as early as midseason and as late as LSU’s open date on Oct. 30 or the game against Alabama the following week. He emphasized the timeline is not definite.

The redshirt junior suffered a compound fracture in his left arm, which is his non-throwing arm, in a freak fishing accident in early August.

Prior to the accident, Brennan was in a battle for starting quarterback with sophomore Max Johnson.

If LSU is to reach the heights that Orgeron has propelled them to in the past, they’ll have to remain healthy. When the season rolls around, hopefully the injury bug stops biting.
