The LSU Tigers have yet to make a decision on who their starting quarterback will be for their week one matchup against the Florida State Seminoles. It appears that it is a tough decision for head coach Brian Kelly to choose between transfer quarterback Jayden Daniels and sophomore Garrett Nussmeier. But there is another option on the table for the Tigers headman; he could play both of them. During a recent presser, Kelly gave his thoughts on the possibility of playing both quarterbacks in LSU’s season opener.

“I don’t know if I have an answer for that question,” Kelly said. “I think we need to make a decision, start who we feel gives us the best chance to win but know that both of them are quarterbacks that can help us win the SEC. So however that plays out – it’s really hard for me to answer that question looking forward. But I think in the moment, we feel really good about both of those quarterbacks.”

Brian Kelly is coming down to the wire in picking LSU’s starter come Sept. 4. Super senior Myles Brennan’s decision to walk away from football has made things easier. However, he still has two great options to pick between for the Tigers. If he can’t come up with a resolution on which one to start, using both might not be a bad idea; especially with Kelly still working on implementing his culture at LSU.

Kelly reveals strengths of Jayden Daniels in LSU quarterback room

During a recent press conference, Kelly revealed the strengths of Daniels in the LSU quarterback room and on the field he has seen so far.

“I would say probably management of the offense, in terms of getting people lined up getting the offense running smoothly efficiently,” said Kelly. “And I think the guys feel a sense of calm when he’s out there because he’s done it before. He’s getting guys lined up. There’s an authority in the way he talks to the guys out there. We call it C.L.A.P: Clear, Loud, As an order, Pause.

“He’s clear, loud, talks like it’s an order, and then there’s always a pause so you can hear it. I think that helps a lot because people know he’s played, and when he’s out there, guys really tune into him. And I think that that’s a comfort level.”

Daniels has been Arizona State’s starting quarterback for each of the past three seasons, first getting the nod in 2019, his true freshman season. That year, he threw for 2,943 passing yards, 17 touchdowns and just two interceptions, while holding a 60.7 percent completion rate; all the while, he rushed for 355 yards and three touchdowns.
