According to Jeff Goodman of Stadium, the LSU Tigers and head coach Matt McMahon have made the final addition to his staff in Baton Rouge. He is set to bring in Ronnie Hamilton from the Ole Miss Rebels to be an assistant coach. Cody Toppert from Memphis, bringing Casey Long from Murray State will also be making the move with McMahon.

Hamilton began his career in 2004, serving as a graduate assistant at UNC Pembroke. From there, he has moved up the chain, working as an assistant coach at programs such as The Citadel, the Houston Cougars, and Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders.

McMahon is also bringing in somebody familiar with the state of Louisiana. Hamilton worked with the Tulane Green Wave for two seasons, working under head coach Ed Conroy. Now, he will be returning to the Pelican State to work for McMahon and the Tigers.

It’s going to be a total rebuild in Baton Rouge, with McMahon having to build with nobody on their roster. Everybody who played for head coach Will Wade last season has either entered the transfer portal or declared for the upcoming 2022 NBA draft. Commitments from their 2022 recruiting class have dried up as well, with McMahon having to work from scratch.

Adding somebody such as Hamilton, who is familiar with the state, will only help the rebuilding process. Even before NCAA drops punishments on the program, it’s a tall task ahead for the Tigers.

Eleventh player enters transfer portal for LSU Tigers

It’s certainly going to be a new-look LSU men’s basketball team next season. Following the firing of former head coach Will Wade and the hiring of new head coach Matt McMahon, 11 different Tigers players have now entered their names into the NCAA Transfer Portal – with forward Mwani Wilkinson being the latest, per On3’s Matt Zenitz.

Wilkinson, who averaged 4.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game as a sophomore for LSU in 2021-22, has made the decision to join 10 of his former teammates in the portal – which means there are now no remaining players from last season’s team on McMahon’s current roster.

With LSU’s roster now wiped clean, it’s becoming more evident that McMahon will be bringing in transfers who played for him at Murray State to make-up his roster in Baton Rouge.
