The LSU Tigers are still trying to figure out their plan at quarterback for the 2022 season. One of their options, Garrett Nussmeier, has been on the mend after suffering an injury setback earlier in fall camp. During a recent press conference, the sophomore quarterback provided an update on his injury setback, and his overall development this offseason.

“Yeah, I’m feeling good. I’m back at 100 percent,” said Nussmeier. “Blessed to be out there, so never take anything for granted, that’s for sure.”

Earlier in fall camp, Nussmeier suffered an ankle sprain, limiting him for a few days. And with a tight three-way quarterback battle going on, that could have been detrimental towards winning the job for the Tigers. However, with the news of senior quarterback Myles Brennan stepping away from football, the battle is essentially down to two, Nussmeier and Jayden Daniels.

Nussmeier and Daniels are familiar with quarterback competitions at the collegiate level. And for them, they understand what is essential and what they must focus on during fall camp.

“I think that that’s a big focus. We both have been in quarterback competitions and I think we both learned it doesn’t matter what the other person does. I’ve said that before many times, there’s no bad blood between me and Jayden. We’re good friends. We grew for each other, worry about how we can improve ourselves. Because it’s a long season. We know how it goes. We just want to put the offense as a whole in the best position we can so we can win games.”

Nussmeier, a redshirt freshman, saw action in four games last season and threw for 329 yards and two touchdowns in his limited snaps. Daniels was a three-year starter for the Sun Devils. He’s thrown for over 6,000 yards and 32 touchdowns in 29 games in his career.
