The struggles continued for the LSU Tigers and their head coach Matt McMahon on Saturday in the SEC/Big 12 challenge. The Tigers lost at home to the Texas Tech Red Raiders 76-68, extending their losing streak to eight games. During the postgame press conference, McMahon spoke on the loss to the Red Raiders, revealing the most disappointing aspect of his squad’s defeat.

“I’m disappointed we lost the game. That’s why you play. We didn’t do a good enough job in the last nine minutes to give ourselves an opportunity to win. And that’s the most disappointing part of it,” said McMahon. “I do think if I step away and watch the film, I thought we played with more urgency at both ends of the floor. For the majority of the game, I thought we were more connected as a team. But at the end of the day, it still wasn’t good enough.

“Now I think you take that, playing with great urgency, competing on every possession; that’s the price of admission. Now, the attention to detail in the scouting report, running three-point shooters off the line, finishing possessions with defensive rebounds, and taking care of the basketball; all those things have to be done at a higher level as we move forward.”

LSU played another hard-fought game only to come up short in the end. The Tigers could not slow down the Red Raiders’ star forward, Kevin Obanor. Obanor had 22 points on 8 of 15 shooting from the field and 3-6 from beyond the arc for Texas Tech.

There is no time for the Tigers to sit around and lick their wounds. Up next for LSU is a Feb. 1 contest against the Tigers of the SEC East in Missouri. That will be a road game for LSU and will tip off at 8:00 P.M. CT on the SEC network.
