LSU has one of the best recruiting classes this cycle. The Tigers’ 2023 class ranks No. 6 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 3 in the SEC. According to On3’s Sam Spiegelman, Brian Kelly and his staff aren’t done on the recruiting trail.

Spiegelman believes that one player the Tigers are closely following is New Orleans (La.) Edna Karr three-star linebacker Jonathan Bax, who is currently committed to TCU. LSU hasn’t extended an offer to the 6-foot-2, 225 pound prospect. However, he was on campus for an unofficial visit on Sept. 10, as well as in April.

“I think he’s gonna end up with an LSU offer,” Spiegelman said on On3’s The Inside Scoop. “I think that more schools are going to jump into the mix… TCU got an early commitment from a high-level prospect that was just starting to take off in his development. And now, I think it’s gonna be on TCU to stave off a couple of big-time schools, including LSU, which hosted him last weekend, continues to talk to him as if they have an offer on the table. And I think by the time December rolls around, Jonathan is gonna have a big decision to make between LSU, TCU and maybe a few other schools.”

Bax is the No. 1,004 overall prospect and No. 89 linebacker in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 39 player in Louisiana.

On3 rates Bax higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Despite not being ranked in the 2023 On300, Bax is the No. 30 linebacker and No. 20 player in Louisiana.

“Bax has been on a tear since the spring,” Spiegelman said. “On3’s national team has seen him in a bunch of different settings, from his spring game to LSU camp to me seeing him on Saturday night against (New Orleans, La.) Warren Easton. He is absolutely prolific off the edge. He’s got great range.”
