Three LSU pitchers ruled out for 2023 season with injuries

LSU baseball will be without three of their right-handed pitchers this season due to injury: Jaden Noot, Jason Bollman, and Kaleb Applebey. Tigers head baseball coach Jay Johnson broke the news on Friday afternoon. All three pitchers were expected to be potential contributors to LSU’s retooled pitching staff in the 2023 season.

Jaden Noot is a freshman with LSU baseball. He was selected as the No. 79 overall prospect in the 2022 MLB Draft. Standing at 6-foot-4, 235-pounds, he was rated as the No. 8 pitcher and the No. 33 overall high school player in the country coming out of Sierra Canyon High School, according to Perfect Game.

Jason Bollman will miss his second consecutive season for LSU. The last time he pitched was in 2021 at Wabash Valley College in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Bollman helped guide the team to a 55-4 overall record. He finished the 2021 season with a 5-2 overall record, along with two saves. Bollman started in eight games and pitched 45 innings, finishing with a 3.97 ERA, 73 strikeouts, 21 walks.

Kaleb Applebey also came to LSU from Wabash Valley College. He was one of the most highly sought after prospects in the nation coming out of high school. The 6-foot-7, 220-pounder was ranked as the No. 2 player in the state of Illinois in the 2021 cycle, according to Prep Baseball Report. He was also ranked as the No. 112 right-handed pitcher in the nation, coming out of Mt. Carmel High School (Illinois).

LSU opens their 2023 season with a three-game series against the Western Michigan Broncos. The season begins on Friday, Feb. 17. One of the more anticipated games on their schedule will be on Tuesday, Feb. 29, when they face the Texas Longhorns. Then, on March 24-26th, they’ll face off against another highly anticipated opponent, the Arkansas Razorbacks.
