Nigel James, a four-star point guard in the 2025 class, tells On3 he’s committed to Marquette and head coach Shaka Smart.

The 6-foot rising senior out of Long Island Lutheran (NY) chose the Golden Eagles over a final group of Georgia Tech and Rutgers. He also received offers from Georgia, Crieghton, Louisville, St. John’s and others.

According to the On3 Industry Rankings, James is the No. 109 overall prospect in the 2025 cycle. He’s also the No. 18 point guard prospect and the No. 4 player in New York. The On3 Industry Ranking is a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

The mutual sense of trust led to James selecting Marquette.

“Their work in the past and how they have created a genuine relationship with me and my family. They treat me as if I’m already one of their players and they look out for me. They trusted me during my process and I will always trust them.”

In his own words, what type of player is Marquette getting in Nigel James?

“I describe my game as an all around point guard. I can make plays for my team and myself and can score the ball at a very high level I think.”
