Four-star Miami (Fla.) Central EDGE Rueben Bain was considering unofficial visits to Miami or Alabama this weekend as the Hurricanes host North Carolina and the Crimson Tide host Texas A&M.

According to On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons, it will be the hometown Hurricanes who will host him for their late-afternoon showdown with the Tar Heels. Bain, the nation’s No. 90 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus, has been a frequent visitor in Coral Gables since the spring, with this being his fourth known unofficial visit in the past seven months.

Miami has made a strong impression on Bain under Mario Cristobal, and the ‘Canes currently have the lead in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).

“They’re good guys,” Bain told Simmons earlier this week. “They know a lot of football. All of them have some type of history behind their names, major history behind their names. There’s guys that’s very credible and they know what they’re doing. It’s the first year, so I don’t expect anything too major or too spectacular. But they’re doing what they can and just trying to fix around the program day-by-day.”

Relationships more important than wins and losses right now

Bain is not too concerned by their performance early this season, and he believes that head coach Mario Cristobal and his staff can turn around the program.

“I would say the relationship with Coach Cristobal seems like a great thing,” Bain added. “Not only just about business, but he seems like a head coach that you could just walk into his office and talk to him and just chop it up all day if you’re homesick or something, which I wouldn’t be since I’m home. …He seems like that type of dude that’s a father figure, not just a football coach.”

Bain has already taken an unofficial visit this fall to Auburn, and he has plans to return to both Alabama and Florida State. The Seminoles, as well as LouisvilleMiami and USC, are in contention to receive his final three official visits.

Rueben Bain Scouting Summary

“Energizer bunny along the defensive line who plays with his hair on fire every snap which helped lead Miami Central (FL) to a state championship as a junior. Totaled 53 tackles, a ridiculous 31 tackles for loss and 19.5 sacks during his junior season. One of, if not the highest of motors of any defensive lineman in the 2023 cycle. Works to make plays at all levels of the field. Lives in the backfield due to his get off and burst. Plays with natural leverage due to height.

… Possesses excellent length in order to keep chest clean at point of attack. Stacks and sheds with ease regardless of mass. Needs to fill out throughout his frame in order to thrive at the next level. Has the twitch, change of direction and motor in order to excel in college. Ran an electronically-timed sub-4.50 shuttle and jumped a 25-inch vertical at 250 pounds during the spring of his sophomore year heading into his junior campaign. Will continue to develop physically and get stronger in order to shine and become an NFL draft selection.”
