According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, defensive back Keionte Scott has committed to Miami out of the NCAA transfer portal. Scott just went through the process this past winter, leaving Auburn in favor of Houston. He hopped back into the portal when the spring window opened and now winds up in Coral Gables.

Scott committed to Houston back in January, going through spring practice with the Cougars. The annual Red-White Game took place on April 19. Head coach Willie Fritz claimed to be “excited” about Scott’s place on the team following the spring game.

Instead, Mario Cristobal will be the one thrilled to have the defensive back on his roster. Scott is somebody with a ton of experience and would be a welcome addition on many power conference rosters.

Last season saw Scott play in 11 games with Auburn, bringing his total to 33. He recorded 115 tackles, six tackles for a loss, and one sack during his time on the Plains. One interception is on the stat sheet too, occurring during the 2022 season against Ole Miss.

Auburn used Scott as a punt returner at times too. His 43 attempts resulted in 444 yards and a score. Arkansas was on the receiving end of a 74-yard touchdown in what wound up being a blowout victory for Hugh Freeze‘s team in 2023.

Miami will have multiple avenues to use Scott in what will be his final season of eligibility. Defensive back ability is certainly one of them but getting the ball in Scott’s hands has proven to be beneficial in the past as well.

Miami lands commitment from former Texas kicker Bert Auburn

Texas transfer kicker Bert Auburn has committed to Miami via the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett. Auburn would’ve been entering his fifth year on the 40 Acres, but he’s chosen to join the Hurricanes instead ahead of the 2025 season.

“Thank you Texas,” Auburn said via X, when he entered the portal. “Through all the ups and downs, these have been some of the best years. It’s been an honor to be a longhorn! I will be entering the transfer portal with one year of eligibility remaining.”

Auburn will leave with a little bit of Texas history attached to his name. No player to come through the program has more points. Usually a category kickers dominate, Auburn is at the top of the list for the Longhorns.
