Deion Sanders and Jackson State are putting together an impressive recruiting class for the 2022 season. After flipping the nation’s On3 Consensus No. 2 overall-rated recruit from his alma mater at Florida State, Sanders hauled in another talented player from another big name Florida school.

Junior receiver Mark Pope, formerly of the Miami Hurricanes, has announced that he will be joining Jackson State for the 2022 season. Pope announced his decision Wednesday night with this post on Twitter.

The former Hurricanes receiver elected to stay in his home city and play for Miami as a member of the 2018 recruiting class. Pope has seen his playing time expand over his three seasons in Miami. Despite the increased playing time, the six-foot-one receiver elected to enter the transfer portal along with fellow receiver Dee Wiggins in October.

His career with the Hurricanes concludes with 52 receptions for 680 yards and four touchdowns across three seasons. He also spent time as a return specialist for Miami, returning seven punts for 32 yards and six kickoffs for 111 yards.

Sanders land nations best corner

Suwanee (Georgia) Collins Hill senior cornerback Travis Hunter was compared to Deion Sanders throughout his high school career. He was set to play on the same field as Sanders at the college level.

He’ll get to learn from him personally over the next few years as he will be playing for Jackson State University and not Florida State, Sanders’ alma mater.

Hunter committed to Florida State back on March 3, 2020. He has stayed true to his commitment to the Seminoles despite the best efforts by multiple programs. Hunter took two visits to Georgia during the football season sparking speculation that Georgia was going to be the team that made a run late in Hunters’ recruitment.

Jackson State made a quiet but calculated run at the nation’s top player.

Yesterday, Sanders teased on his Barstool podcast that he was going to ‘shock the country’ on National Signing Day.

He appears to have succeeded in that attempt as he and Jackson State have landed the top-ranked player in the On3 Consensus rankings for the class of 2022.

Hunter is the highest-ranked player to sign with a historically black college. When the day started Hunter tweeted ‘Time to make history.’

Deion Sanders, the charismatic, blunt-speaking Pro Football Hall of Famer who just earned FCS coach of the year honors at Jackson State, left NFL Network in August 2020 to join Barstool Sports, where he hosts a “21st and Prime” podcast and produces video content. It would not be a stretch to envision Barstool, which has shown interest in further exploring the NIL space, ultimately pursuing a lucrative deal with Hunter at Jackson State.
