Four-star Lake Charles (La.) College Prep running TreVonte’ Citizen has committed to Miami, he announced Wednesday on National Signing Day.

He chose the Hurricanes over Auburn, Florida, and LSU. Citizen was considered a heavy Florida lean leading up to his announcement. He picked up hats off the table from each of his four finalists and put them on his head, only to take each off. Finally, he chose a second Miami hat.

Citizen is the No. 93 prospect in the 2022 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

On3’s own rankings are a bit higher on Citizen, ranking him as the nation’s No. 57 prospect and No. 2 running back in the senior class.

He was previously committed to LSU from June until November, when head coach Ed Orgeron was fired after the regular season. He took official visits to both Miami and LSU over the past few weeks, but it was ultimately new Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal who won out.

“I like that Coach Mario was under Nick Saban, and a coach under Coach Saban has a plan, and they implement their plan with Coach Saban’s plan,” Citizen told On3’s Sam Spiegelman. “He wants to get Miami back up to where they had with Ed Reed, Sean Taylor, and Frank Gore.”

Of his visit, Citizen added: “It was cool. They showed me the new staff, how the new facilities are going to look. The energy the staff brought was amazing.”

TreVonte’ Citizen Scouting Summary

“Citizen has a near perfect body type for a running back. Stands close to 6-feet and carries 215-220-pounds perfectly proportioned. Has a developed lower body which works as a power base on the field. Put together a strong start to his senior season, averaging 11.4 yards per carry and scoring a touchdown on every six carries, prior to missing time with a broken finger. Out-played fellow top 2022 running back Branson Robinson head-to-head as a senior. Plays with the feel to drop his pads and runs with a low center of gravity. Shows strong balance with the ability to both absorb and dish out contact. Displays the ability to stop-start with excellent feet in the hole. Flashes the ability to get small to rip to the second level. Quicker than fast. A tackle breaker with forward lean to finish runs at a high rate. Possesses cut-back peripheral vision and runs with a slashing style. Most comfortable running to his left as a left-hander at this stage.” — On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power
