The Miami Hurricanes football team and head coach Mario Cristobal are heading into their summer workouts with a strong mindset in place. After the Hurricanes spring practices, Cristobal has liked what he’s seen from his team, so far. But the Miami head man knows the job is not done as he explained during a recent interview; now it’s time to “pay the price.”

“It better be nothing but our very best since, that simple,” said Cristobal when asked about the Hurricanes summer expectations. “It looks a certain way in the summer. People talk about the price you pay… that is analogous to what the offseason means to football; pay the price. It’s time to do that. There is no fluff about it; it’s very demanding, I mean very demanding, and that’s why we had most of our recruits here. We try to get every single prospect here to watch us work. You’ve gotta be attracted to that.”

Cristobal has pushed the Miami players hard during the spring, and so far, it sounds as if the team is responding well to their new head coach’s demands. And for Cristobal, there is no other way to attack this summer program other than full speed ahead.

“There’s no substitute for that, and Miami is full-throttle on all those things and more as it relates to development from the inside out. That’s part of it. The other part, of course, is developing a guy mentally, psychologically, emotionally, spiritually, socially, all those things. So, in all, this summer is a monumental step for our program, and our guys thus far have done a great job.”

While Cristobal has been hard on his players, he does recognize the level of effort his young men have put in thus far. Despite the high level of demands the Hurricane players have had to deal with this offseason, they have met and exceeded their head coach’s expectations.

“We’ve had several guys step up. Our players deserve a lot of credit; I wanna emphasize that… because when we’ve thrown at them, it’s been a very demanding offseason program. So I’m proud of them, and they also know the foot’s not coming off the gas. So far, just a lot to be excited about to be enthused about, and honestly need to be most excited about getting to work.”

There are some who do not have high expectations of Hurricane football for the 2022 season; Cristobal is not one of them. His goals are simple for this upcoming season and every season to follow; bring back the level of dominance and excellence expected from Miami Hurricanes football and make his program one of the best in the nation.
