As the coaching carousel in college football continues to spin, big-name programs have made splash signings. But there’s one school, in particular, that some believe have more questions than answers with their current head coach and are expecting a change.

The Miami Hurricanes made news earlier in the season with the firing of their athletic director. And while some are waiting for the other shoe to fall and for the university to part ways with current head coach Manny Diaz, a move has yet to be made. However, according to On3’s Matt Zenitz, those who are waiting for that to happen will likely have to wait longer. According to Zenitz, sources close to the situation have said there is a good chance Diaz ends up keeping his job at Miami.

The University of Miami has parted ways with athletic director Blake James. James has been the AD for the Hurricanes since 2013. The decision came a mere two days after the Hurricanes football team blew an eight-point lead against Florida State.

Miami is on its third head football coach since James took over. When the Hurricanes parted ways with James, the team was 5-5 under Diaz, who is 19-15 in his tenure.

Miami season at a glance

The Hurricanes were looking to build on their ranking No.22 and record from last year of 8- 3. They started this season ranked as one of the top teams in the nation at No.12. But those aspirations came to a screeching halt after the first three games of the season. The Hurricanes kicked off the season by getting annihilated in their season opener by the Alabama Crimson tide 44-13. They followed up that performance with a narrow victory at home against Appalachian State 25- 23. Miami was still ranked in the top 25 despite the loss and the close victory over an FCS team. However, after a week three loss to the Michigan State Spartans 38-17, the Hurricanes were bounced out of the top 25 for good.

Diaz and the Hurricanes were able to make something out of the season after their slow start. They had finished off the regular season at 7- 5 and second in the ACC’s Coastal division. With a 7-5 record, The Hurricanes are bowl eligible again this season. But this is not the expectation of where they would finish the season this year.
