The Miami Hurricanes are in the middle of a very awkard situation with their current football coaches and their future football coaches. Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reported on Sunday that Manny Diaz and the Miami coaching staff are out recruiting today, while the Hurricanes are waiting on getting a finalized agreement from Mario Cristobal, who has a deadline of midday Monday to accept the job. Gene Chizik of the SEC Network found out about this and he wasn’t pleased at all with the leadership at the University of Miami athletic department for allowing such a situation to arise.

Below is his tweet from his Twitter account.

Chizik has a very good point here. The Miami athletic department has handled this entire situation in a very poor manner. They shouldn’t have two coaches hanging in the balance here in uncertain situations. Not only that, how in the world are you going to expect your college football head coach to be out on the trail literally hours before he could be potentially fired.

What exactly is Diaz going to say to recruits? Quite frankly, there’s nothing good he can say in this situation. Well, I might be the head coach at Miami tomorrow, but I might not be. It’s certainly one of the more dysfunctional situations of a major college football coaching hire in a long, long time.

Chizik is right here and it’s baffling to figure out how exactly the Miami coaching hiring situation came to this. There are people in the athletic department that are paid extremely good money to make these types of decisions.

They should be handled and carried out in the proper manner. It’s an embarrassment to the University of Miami and puts Manny Diaz in an absolutely disastrous situation. At this point, it’s very fair to question the leadership in the Hurricanes’ athletic department and what exactly they are thinking in the middle of all of this?

Chizik is upset that Miami waiting on Cristobal, while keeping Diaz

News also broke on Sunday afternoon about Miami’s leadership giving Cristobal a deadline of midday Monday to accept the Miami head football coaching job. Below is the report from Sports Illustrated’s Ross Dellenger.

Mario Cristobal has a deadline of midday Monday to accept the UM job,” reported Dellenger. “If he declines, Manny Diaz will be retained, as [The Miami Herald] reported. Final decision on AD – where Dan Radakovich is top candidate – will be made after the coach situation is resolved.”

What a messy situation and I’m sure plenty of college football fans around the country agree with Chizik on this. We’ll see how it plays out.
