Miami Hurricanes quarterback Tyler Van Dyke grabbed a lot of people’s attention during the 2021 season. Now, expectations are high that he can be a key piece of Miami’s turnaround under head coach Mario Cristobal. To do so, he’ll need to get a lot of help, especially from players like Colbie Young and Isaiah Horton, who are young wide receivers entering the program.

“They’re good players,” Tyler Van Dyke said. “Colbie’s a big freak athlete. Has great ball skills for a big guy like that, and he can move too. So, I’m excited to see what he can do.”

“And Isaiah, he’s good. As you guys know, he’s a freshman. I think he’s gonna have a lot of potential. He just still has a lot of stuff to work on, obviously, he’s a freshman. But, he’s gonna be a good player,” Tyler Van Dyke concluded.

Colbie Young was originally in the Class of 2021 but initially went to Lackawanna Community College. He chose Miami over Virginia Tech. Isaiah Horton, meanwhile, is a consensus four-star recruit from the Class of 2022. A Tennessee native, Horton held around two dozen scholarship offers.

Tyler Van Dyke has a new training camp role

Going into the 2021 season, Tyler Van Dyke was a backup quarterback for Miami. D’Eriq King was set to be the Hurricanes’ starter. It wasn’t until an injury to King that Van Dyke took over and allowed him to impress on the field.

Tyler Van Dyke explained the difference between one training camp to the next.

“It’s different but at the same time, I’ve got to work and do what I got to do. This year I’m getting reps with the ones and being that leader – it’s a different role and I just had to embrace that, but it’s still football.”

“Obviously being a backup, you’re not as vocal as you are going to be as a starter, so that’s definitely a big adjustment, especially for someone like me, who’s more quieter guy. But I feel like I stepped into the role pretty well.”
