Class of 2023 four-star prospect Gehrig Normand has committed to Michigan State, he tells On3.

The 6-foot-6, 175-pound shooting guard out of North Richland Hills (Texas) Birdville chose the Spartans over offers from Wisconsin, Missouri, Texas, Oklahoma State, Tennessee, Auburn, Illinois, and others.

Normand is the No. 81 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies. On3’s evaluators are higher on him, ranking him 69th nationally and the No. 15 shooting guard.

Joining Normand in East Lansing is five-star forward Xavier Booker and four-star point guard Jeremy Fears. The Spartans are also targeting four-star forwards Devin Royal and Coen Carr.

Normand on his commitment to Michigan State

“The coaching staff is amazing. Tom Izzo is a Hall-of-Fame coach and one of the best coaches in college basketball history. I felt at home right when I stepped on campus. My buddies (Jeremy) Fears and Xavier (Booker) are going there. It just felt like home. There is no other right decision. Without a doubt, it was the easiest decision I’ve ever made in my life because I know the potential we have and the coaching staff…they felt like family. It really did.”

What type of player is Michigan State getting in Gehrig Normand?

“They are getting whatever they want. I’m going to give them everything I have. I will do anything to win a National Championship. That’s the main thing for me. I want to win so I’ll do whatever it takes. Michigan State is getting a dog that’ll do anything for them.”

Normand has a message for the Michigan State fan base.

“Be ready, man! It’s going to be crazy! I can’t wait to be on campus. I’m so excited. So excited to be in the Izzone, just everything. Michigan State fans, be ready. We’re coming for that National Championship!

Scouting Summary

Gehrig Normand is a talented catch and shoot prospect with range and undervalued athleticism. He easily finishes above the rim in transition, or on straight line driving opportunities. Shows bounce off one or two feet. Has the strength and competitive trait to play through contact. Normand will compete for space and rebounds. He can go get his shot against players of equal size and similar quickness. Normand has the ability to elevate over smaller and quicker defenders, but will not create straight line drives in that scenario. He’s worked hard to become a complete offensive player, but has to be cautious of trying to do too much. Comes from an athletic family. Father played college football at Kansas State for Bill Snyder. – On3’s Gerry Hamilton, Senior National Recruiting Analyst
