The Michigan State Spartans are 2-0 after the first two weeks of the college football season and this week, they’ll prepare for an out-of-conference matchup with the Washington Huskies and their quarterback, Michael Penix, Jr. The Huskies landed him via the transfer portal from the Indiana Hoosiers, so he’s a player the Spartans have great familiarity with. He’s one of the more underrated quarterbacks in America. Check out the hype video the Spartans dropped ahead of their matchup with the Huskies.

Through his first two games, Penix has thrown for 682 passing yards, while tossing in six touchdown passes and just one interception. He’s completed 69 percent of his passes thus far, but Michigan State will pose a much stiffer challenge than the Portland State Vikings or the Kent State Golden Flashes.

Michigan State has a gifted pair of running backs from the portal

In Week 1 against Western Michigan, the Spartans handled them with no problems, 35-13. Michigan State running back Jalen Berger rushed 16 times for 120 rushing yards and one touchdown. He came to East Lansing from the Wisconsin Badgers this offseason via the transfer portal. According to the On3 Consensus Rankings for the 2020 cycle, Berger was rated as a four-star prospect and the No. 18 running back prospect in America.

Last week against the Akron Zips, the Spartans absolutely steamrolled them to the tune of 52-0. Berger once again had another very good performance for Michigan State, rushing 17 times for 107 yards on the ground and three touchdowns. Another player the Spartans landed from the transfer portal, Jarek Broussard, also got in on the action. He had 15 carries for 81 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The Spartans landed him from the Colorado Buffaloes. He was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year in 2020 and Broussard is yet another transfer portal prospect to watch this weekend.

Michigan State faces off against the Washington Huskies on Saturday, Sept. 17. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 PM EST from Seattle, Washington.
