South Carolina has been viewed as the overwhelming favorite to land the pledge of Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day four-star running back Anthony Carrie for a majority of his recruitment. However, a new leader as emerged in Carrie’s recruitment.

Following expert predictions from On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons and Michigan State recruiting insider Noah Sprunger, the Spartans now hold a narrow lead for Carrie in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).

Michigan State has pulled ahead with a 50.4% chance to lan Carrie’s pledge while South Carolina sits in a close second at 43%. Simmons and Sprunger each put in their picks with a confidence level of 60%.

Carrie is the No. 283 overall prospect and No. 24 running back in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 42 player in Florida.

In his pick, Simmons noted that the battle for Carrie’s pledge will likely come down to Michigan State, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Effrem Reed has done an excellent job connection with Carrie and trust is big for the four-star running back,” Simmons wrote. “The relationship Carrie has built with Reed and others on that staff has put Michigan State in a good position. Those relationships along with the ability to contribute early and the offensive scheme have Carrie’s attention.”

The 5-foot-11, 195-pound back is set to return to Michigan State on June 9 for an official visit. He has also locked in another official to North Carolina for June 16.

Carrie’s trip to East Lansing will be his third overall and second of the year. He was last on campus March 24.

“I have visited Michigan State twice and it feels like family there,” Carrie told SpartanMag in March. “It is somewhere I could see myself going. They had Kenneth Walker III, so they showed what they can do with great backs. It feels like home and family.”

Carrie’s pledge would be a needed win for Mel Tucker

A pledge from Carrie would be a much-needed win for the Spartans after a slow start to the 2024 recruiting cycle.

Michigan State’s class currently consists of a trio of three-star prospects and ranks as the No. 50 class in the country. The Spartans pledges include cornerback Jaylen Thompson and offensive tackles Andrew Dennis and Logan Bennett.

The Spartans had held a commitment from in-state four-star wide receiver Nick Marsh since last July. However, Marsh announced his decommitment on March 7.
