There might not be a more exciting running back to watch in college football this season than Michigan‘s Blake Corum. Ranked third in the country in rushing yards heading into Week 7, Corum’s uncanny ability to find the end zone has made him a staple of this year’s Wolverines offense, and is now being recognized for his contributions on a national scale.

“It’s a blessing because people want to be mentioned in the Heisman (race), but like I tell myself and I tell other people, it’s early,” Corum said on Jalen & Jacoby Wednesday. “All the award will matter at the end of the season. None of the awards matter right now. Yeah, they’re cool and that sounds good, but the way I look at it is with team success comes individual success.

“I’m just focused on the day-to-day, laying these bricks, going out on Saturday, taking advantage of every opportunity, and like I said, showing these people what I’m what I’m capable of and what the team is capable of. Everything else will take care of itself. …If I go to New York in the midst of all that, that’s awesome, that’s an honor.”

Averaging nearly 20 carries a game (at least 25 in each of the past three games), Corum has 735 rushing yards this season (6.2 yards per carry) and has turned that into 11 touchdowns. He trails only IllinoisChase Brown (879) and Pitt‘s Israel Abanikanda (830).

In terms of Heisman odds, Corum is tied with UCLA‘s Dorian Thompson-Robinson for the fifth best odds (+1600) to win the award. CJ Stroud (-140), Caleb Williams (+1000), Bryce Young (+1400) and Hendon Hooker (+1400) are the only players leading the two, meaning Corum has the best odds other than a quarterback to win the award.

Still, that isn’t Corum’s main priority as Michigan continues its undefeated ways through their 2022 campaign.

“Right now, I’m just focused on each and every game,” Corum said. “Beating Michigan State, beating Ohio State, going to the Big 10 Championship, going back to the College Football Playoff and winning it this time.”
