Bruce Feldman predicts a 'rebuild' for Michigan football after 2023 season

Embroiled in scandal and finally looking to claim that elusive first College Football Playoff victory, Jim Harbaugh may abscond back to the NFL after the season, according to Bruce Feldman.

As most fans are aware, Harbaugh was an NFL coach before and led the 49ers for four years before he left for Michigan. Harbaugh and Colin Kaepernick even led San Francisco to the 2012 Super Bowl, when both guys were less controversial figures. So the Wolverine head coach could earn another job at the pro level if he decides to go that route — and Fox Sports insider Bruce Feldman is predicting just that.

“Jim Harbaugh took his team that wasn’t very good before he got there to a Super Bowl. 44-19 is, as you know, is a really impressive resume. There will be jobs,” explained Feldman on the Rich Eisen Show this week.

Wolverine fans, hide your eyes, because Feldman had some pretty tough news for the future of Michigan football following this season, starting with Harbaugh’s departure and a player exodus to follow.

“My gut — and this is something that some people inside Michigan kind of also buy — there’s going to be a rebuild in Ann Arbor. Yeah, there’s a transfer portal. Yeah, there’s still some really good young players who can’t leave early. But the bulk of those starters are going on to the NFL.”

For a program like Michigan, losing a head coach involuntarily is never ideal, especially with how much roster turnover now comes with a coaching change. Plus, Feldman adds Michigan has lingering NCAA issues to deal with, and especially if they do wind up keeping Harbaugh.

“The NCAA is not going to be done with Michigan now,” Feldman added. “There will be more punishment, and if Jim Harbaugh is still there, it’s not like, ‘oh yeah, he served three games for the Big 10, but we’re still not happy with how the sanctions are going to be laid out for the recruiting issues.'”

Such a hairy situation with the NCAA simply has Bruce Feldman convinced that Michigan will have a brand new head coach manning the sidelines next fall.

“So I think I’d still be surprised if Jim Harbaugh was the head coach at Michigan a year from now,” Feldman stated to finish his point.

If Jim Harbaugh were to win the the whole darn thing, then he could ride off into the sunset and straight out of Ann Arbor as a hero to Wolverine fans.
