Michigan is hosting a massive recruiting weekend in Ann Arbor over the next few days, and there’s no bigger target in town than Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day School five-star quarterback Jadyn Davis.

The Wolverines have been considered the heavy favorite by the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) for nearly the last calendar year, and Davis said on multiple occasions that he was close to making a commitment.

However, head coach Jim Harbaugh‘s flirtation with the NFL and the departures of offensive coordinators Josh Gattis and Matt Weiss threw some wrenches in the process along the way. But after a long pursuit, the Wolverines are still trending in the On3 RPM as Davis comes to town.

The 6-foot, 190-pounder is the No. 20 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also ranks as the nation’s No. 4 quarterback and the No. 1 recruit in North Carolina.

Michigan QB JJ McCarthy is a major recruiter for the Wolverines

While Harbaugh, former OCs Weiss and Josh Gattis, and eventually new offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore led the way in Davis’ recruitment, one of the constants throughout has been current Michigan starter JJ McCarthy. Both Davis and his family developed a strong connection with McCarthy and his family, and the latter answered any questions the Davises had.

“They treat me like son, to be honest,” Davis told TheWolverine.com in November. “JJ treats me like a little brother. They don’t really pitch anything to me. They just tell me to follow my gut and my heart. But it would be great to learn from a guy like JJ one day.

… Being in this recruiting process, you see different types of people. But JJ is a very humble guy and just a great dude. Obviously, he’s a great player as well. My dad loves him. My mom loves his mom. It just feels like family.”

Jadyn Davis has been dominant as a high school prospect

Davis won North Carolina’s biggest high school football honor, being named Mr. Football in the state as a junior. He followed that up by earning state Player of the Year honors from Max Preps, Gatorade and High School Football America.

Davis led Providence Day School to a 12-1 record and passed for 3,425 yards and 43 touchdowns in 2022, completing 221-of-305 attempts (72.5%).

He has an On3 NIL Valuation of $609K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
