A day before facing Ohio State in The Game, Michigan landed another win on the recruiting trail. That is because Cincinnati (Ohio) Princeton three-star athlete Breeon Ishmail committed to the Wolverines on Friday morning.

Ishmail’s pledge elevated Michigan’s 2023 recruiting class to No. 23 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings. The Wolverines’ group, which ranks No. 4 in the Big Ten, rose one spot from No. 24.

A 6-foot-4, 216-pound prospect, Ishmail is the No. 1,403 overall prospect and No. 82 athlete in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 41 player in Ohio.

Michigan’s class continues its climb up the rankings

Ishmail is the Wolverines’ second commitment in the last week. On Nov. 18, head coach Jim Harbaugh and his staff got a pledge from Cumming (Ga.) South Forsyth four-star interior offensive lineman Nathan Efobi, the No. 123 overall prospect in the 2023 On300.

Michigan’s rise from No. 43 in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings came over the summer. It started on July 1, when the Wolverines landed commitments from Philadelphia (Penn.) Imhotep Institute four-star linebacker Semaj Bridgeman and Saint Louis (Mo.) Cardinal Ritter College Prep three-star wide receiver Fredrick Moore

Days later, Jim Harbaugh and his staff got pledges from West Bloomfield (Mich.) four-star interior offensive lineman Amir Herring and Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Santa Margarita Catholic four-star EDGE Collins Acheampong. On July 13, Michigan earned its biggest recruiting win of the 2023 cycle by landing Colleyville (Texas) Covenant Christian Academy four-star defensive lineman Enow Etta, the No. 120 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus. Paris (France) Pionniers de Touraine three-star EDGE Aymeric Koumba also chose the Wolverines 48 hours later.

The following month brought success as well. Michigan notched commitments from Burke (Va.) Gonzaga four-star offensive tackle Evan Link and Carlsbad (Calif.) three-star tight end Zack Marshall. Link, who was thought to have a top two of Penn State and Stanford, pledged to the Wolverines following an unofficial visit on July 30.

Michigan’s most recent commitment before Efobi and Ishmail came over two months after Marshall’s Aug. 13 announcement. Kansas City (Mo.) Park Hill three-star quarterback Kendrick Bell, the brother of Wolverines wide receiver Ronnie Bell, chose the maize-and-blue on Oct. 17.
