Mississippi State linebacker Aaron Brule posted his goodbye message to Bulldog football nation on Thursday night. The senior entered the NCAA transfer portal to pursue a new program for his final year of eligibility.

“It’s always hard to end something you never imagined would come to an end,” Brule posted on Twitter. “I would like to start off by saying thank you to the state of Mississippi and city of Starkville.

“The relationships I’ve made in the community, with my coaches, and teammates during my time will never be forgotten. I am humbled and thankful to have been able to play this game at Mississippi State. With that being said, I will be entering my name into the transfer portal as a graduate transfer.”

The linebacker played in 30 games for the Bulldogs, including two 50-plus tackle seasons. Over the course of his career, Brule recorded 139 tackles and eight sacks, adding four pass deflections and two fumble recoveries with 17.5 tackles for loss. This season, he posted 53 tackles and three sacks.

Aaron Brule becomes one of the top defensive prospects in the transfer portal. The former three-star prospect from Louisiana chose Mississippi State over Arkansas, Georgia and others.

To make matters interesting, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin retweeted the Brule news. Mississippi State has also already deleted him from the online roster, leaving an error message where his page used to be.

Brule joins busy transfer portal

The transfer portal has been as busy as ever since the end of the regular season last weekend. Aaron Brule is one of several dozen Power 5 players already looking for new homes. Brule is leaving Starkville before the Bulldogs even know what bowl game they’ll play in a few weeks’ time.

The NCAA Transfer Portal, which covers every NCAA sport at Division I, II and III levels, is a private database with names of student-athletes who wish to transfer. It is not accessible to the public.

An athletic department’s compliance office handles requests for transfer. Once a player provides written notification of an intent to transfer, the office enters the player’s name in the database. The compliance office has 48 hours to comply with the player’s request. However, entering the portal is not consequence-free. Once a player is in the transfer portal, they forfeit their scholarship from their previous program.
