Missouri’s second-year starting quarterback Connor Bazelak announced his intention to transfer away from Columbia on Thursday.

The redshirt sophomore is coming off of a 2,548 passing yard season with 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Bazelak played his last game with the Tigers on Nov. 26 versus Arkansas and missed the Armed Forces Bowl with a soft tissue injury.

Bazelak finished the year in fifth in the SEC in passing yards per game after taking over the starting job for Eli Drinkwitz in 2020. As a redshirt freshman, Bazelak had a 67% completion percentage with 2,366 passing yards while leading Mizzou to a 8-4 finish.

Connor Bazelak is a former four-star prospect from Dayton, Ohio. He committed to Missouri out of Archbishop Alter High over offers from two dozen other Division-I programs.

The Tigers have now had more than a handful of players enter the portal since the end of the season.

NCAA transfer portal boom

The NCAA Transfer Portal, which covers every NCAA sport at the Division I, II and III levels, is a private database with names of student-athletes who wish to transfer. It is not accessible to the public.

A school’s compliance office handles all transfer portal requests. Once a player provides written notification of an intent to transfer, the office enters the player’s name in the database. The compliance office has 48 hours to comply with the player’s request.

Once a player has entered the transfer portal, they are no longer guaranteed a scholarship at their current university if they choose to return.
