Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage safety Shamar McNeil committed to Missouri on Friday. He announced the news over social media.

The defensive back is the ninth member of the Tigers’ 2023 recruiting class. Missouri’s group currently ranks No. 36 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 10 in the SEC.

The 6-foot-3, 175 pound safety is the first 2023 commit at his position for Missouri and the second defensive back alongside Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College cornerback Les Hewitt. He is also the Tigers’ third pledge this month following Lee’s Summit (Mo.) four-star wide receiver Joshua Manning and Saint Louis (Mo.) St Mary three-star running back Jamal Roberts.

The other members of Missouri’s class include Saint Charles (Mo.) Francis Howell four-star tight end Brett Norflett, Tacoma (Wash.) Lincoln four-star quarterback Gabarri Johnson, Troy (Mo.) Troy Buchanan three-star EDGE Jahkai Lang, Dickinson (Tex.) three-star wide receiver Marquis Johnson and East Saint Louis (Ill.) Cahokia three-star wide receiver Nicholas Deloach.

McNeil received offers from Missouri, Florida Atlantic and Rutgers. He took an unofficial visit to Columbia on June 29. He also unofficially visited Florida State on March 5.

McNeil has an On3 NIL Valuation of $5.8K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
