Clearly there is no love lost between the NC State and North Carolina coaching staffs. During the second quarter of the ESPN broadcast of the game, play-by-play man Dave Pasch relayed what N.C. State head coach Dave Doeren said about the Tar Heels and their head coach Mack Brown earlier this week. Let’s just say it wasn’t pretty.

Below is the audio of the clip in the second quarter. You can also read the transcribed version below the audio clip.

“Look. They don’t like us. We hate them. We’re blue collar. They’re elitists. Their coaches talk down to us. They talk behind our backs recruiting negatively about our coaching staff,” was what Doeren said to Pasch earlier in the week.

Pasch wanted to double check and make sure the N.C. State head coach wanted the information in the public eye. We said, “Coach, is this off the record or on the record?” He said, “I don’t give a $#$#.” Meaning it was okay for the information to be released to the public. So, there we have it. Don’t look for N.C. State head coach Dave Doeren to send Mack Brown any Christmas cards anytime soon.

N.C. State came out hyped up from the start of the game

The N.C. State defense brought that same energy to the field on Friday, with the Wolfpack leading UNC 17-10 at halftime. Their fourth-string quarterback Ben Finley had an outstanding performance, completing 27 of 40 passes for 271 yards, while tossing in two touchdowns and no interceptions.

The win was the 5th win in the last 7 games for NC State against North Carolina. The win was not only big for the Wolfpack’s season but also made a substantial impact on Dave Doeren’s wallet. He picked up a $50,000 bonus as they got their 8th win of the season by defeating the ‘Heels. Doeren has now earned $75,000 in bonuses this year, according to Steve Berkowitz of USA Today.

Dave Doeren had numerous players step up in the big win

NC State receiver Devin Carter had a spectacular evening, hauling in six catches for 130 receiving yards and a touchdown. In the fourth quarter, he hauled in an absolutely beautiful 26-yard touchdown catch from Ben Finley to put the Wolfpack up 24-17. It was a back-shoulder fade that was one of the most gorgeous spirals of the evening.

NC State kicker Christopher Dunn hit three of his four field goal attempts and drilled all three of his extra points. He drilled two kicks in the overtime sessions, one in the first overtime and one in the second overtime. The last one would end up being the difference after North Carolina’s Noah Burnette missed the final kick in double overtime, hooking it far left of the uprights, and the Wolfpack prevailed 30-27.
