Chase Clemmons, a 6-foot-0 point guard out of Greenville (S.C.) Legacy Early College has committed to Nebraska, he tells On3.

A 2023 three-star prospect originally from Atlanta, Clemmons also received scholarship offers from Georgia, Tennessee State, Houston, amongst others. He’s ranked as the No. 122 overall prospect in the class, according to the On3 Consensus.

Clemmons broke down his decision with On3, going in-depth on why he chose Nebraska.

“Have you ever traveled to a place where you immediately felt a sense of belonging? When I was young, I would spend time at my grandma’s house and visit with people who were family, a very welcoming and warm (feeling). That’s the feeling I got when I made my first visit to Nebraska,” Clemmons said. “They made it feel like home. That kind of feeling played a big part in my decision. I want to go somewhere I can be myself, and they created a family environment.”

Nebraska head coach Fred Hoiberg played the biggest role in Clemmons decision.

“The biggest part of my decision is because of my relationship with Coach Fred Hoiberg,” said Clemmons. “For example, when I announced I was going to Legacy, the first person to show up was Coach Hoiberg. The fact that he took time out of his busy schedule to travel to South Carolina is something I’ll never forget. I won’t ever forget that feeling I had when I saw him. Something clicked inside and it was a lingering effect. It continues to linger. Another example is how much Nebraska continued to check in on me after my injuries. They truly cared about my rehab and progress.”

The Huskers landing Clemmons doesn’t come as too much of a shock, as they were the only school he officially visited.

Clemmons is also close friends with the McGowens brothers, Trey and Bryce, who both starred at Nebraska.

“I call them family because I grew up with them,” Clemmons said to On3. “My family, their family, grew up with each other. We’re real close.”

This past season as a freshman, Bryce averaged 16.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.4 assists before declaring for the 2022 NBA draft, where he’s projected to be selected as the 35th overall pick, according to ESPN’s latest mock draft. The older brother, Trey, spent his first two seasons at Pittsburgh before transferring to Nebraska, where he’s played the last two years, before also declaring for the 2022 NBA draft.
