Scott Frost once again found himself without a win on a Saturday. With Georgia Southern in Lincoln, Nebraska lost in heartbreaking fashion, with a game-tying field goal not going through the uprights. The Cornhuskers are now 1-2 on the season and the Oct. 1 date is looking more and more enticing.

After the game, Frost said he “didn’t expect” Nebraska to perform the way they did. He admitted Georgia State was able to “outscheme” them on the offensive side of the ball. After all, 45 points were let up by the Cornhuskers throughout the night.

“Certainly didn’t expect that tonight,” Frost said. “I thought we’d perform a lot better than that.”

Georgia Southern was able to put a ton of yards on the board as well. In total, the Eagles had 642 yards in Lincoln. Some of the positives surrounding Frost have been well the defense has played. That was not the case on Saturday, getting exposed at home.

Next week will not be getting any easier, with another elite offense coming into town. Oklahoma is next on the schedule, renewing an old, bitter rivalry. Frost will have some time to gameplan for the Sooners and will hope Saturday’s results are not repeated.

Nebraska falls to Georgia Southern

The Nebraska Cornhuskers entered this season as favorites to win the Big Ten West but now look like favorites to reclaim their spot at the bottom of the conference. The Cornhuskers lost their season opener to northwestern in another close game. And in their second home game of the season, Nebraska has fallen to the Georgia Southern Eagles 45-42.

The Cornhuskers’ defense struggled all night to stop any part of Georgia Southern’s. The Eagles’ offense recorded a total of 642 yards total offense. Quarterback Kyle Vantrease passed for 409 yards with one touchdown through the air. And Georgia Southern also nearly had two running backs rushed for over 100 yards. With this second loss of the season, the fate of Cornhusker football is now uncertain, especially head coach Scott Frost.

Offensively Nebraska did everything it could to with the game, even putting together a late drive to take the lead 42-38. Quarterback Casey Thompson was 23 of 34 on the night with 318 yards through the air and one touchdown; he also tacked on three rushing TDs. And star running backs Anthony Grant and AJ Allen combined for over 200 yards on the ground and a touchdown a piece.
