Jamarques Lawrence, 2022 three-star, commits to Nebraska
Jamarques Lawrence, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard out of Roselle (N.J.) Catholic has committed to Nebraska basketball for the class of 2022, he tells On3.
Lawrence is the Cornhuskers’ fourth commitment of the class. He joins Ramel Lloyd Jr., Blaise Keita, and Denim Dawson.
Lawrence ultimately chose Nebraska over Wake Forest. He also received offers from Cal, DePaul, Virginia Tech, amongst others.
Jamarques Lawrence on why he chose Nebraska
“Besides the basketball part, it’s a place where I felt I would be comfortable,” Lawrence said. “I had a better relationship with the staff and the team. Coach (Fred) Hoiberg likes to shoot a lot of threes, and that’s what I do best. Their offense fits my playstyle the best. This is best for me. It’s a no-brainer. Why not play for a coach that coached in the League and played in the League who has all this experience and the connections he has….I wanted to be a part of that.”
What can Lawrence contribute to the team?
“I’ve always been an underrated passer,” Lawrence said. “My coaches tell me now that I’m a point guard. I can create shots for myself, drive-by defenders, and get my teammates involved too.”
What does Lawrence need to improve on?
“My defense has gotten better but you always have to step your defense up especially playing in the Big Ten… high-level guards so defense number one. And then I need to improve on off-hand finishing. I tend to use my right hand a lot so I’ll work on that before I get to Nebraska,” Lawrence said.
What’s Lawrence most excited about?
“The fans,” Lawrence said instantaneously. “When I was there on the visit, the fans…everywhere I went they welcomed me and I can’t wait to play in front of them.”
