Friday’s Nebraska baseball game at Purdue has been rescheduled due to expected rain in the forecast, the team announced. First pitch is now scheduled for 12 p.m. CT.

The game was originally set for 5 p.m. CT, but the rain is expected to begin around 2 p.m. CT. Now, West Lafayette will be around 75 degrees and sunny for the start of the game before the inclement weather moves in.

The Cornhuskers defeated the Boilermakers 10-5 during the series opener Thursday night despite being out-hit by Purdue 14-12. 3B Max Anderson had a stellar night for the Huskers hitting 3-4 with three RBIs, a home run and a walk. The long ball was good for his 20th of the season, the most on the team.

RHP Jace Kaminska (7-3, 4.52 ERA, 61.2 IP, 45 K) will earn the start on the mound for Nebraska on Friday.

As of now, Saturday’s series finale is set for 1 p.m. CT. Nebraska has not formally announced a starting pitcher for the regular season finale.

Nebraska takes game one of final regular season series

Nebraska’s 10-5 win over Purdue was assured thanks to three home runs from the Huskers during the final three innings. Those homers tied Nebraska’s all-time season home run record, which was set by the 1985 Cornhuskers group that belted 93 home runs that season.

This year’s squad has a chance to shatter that record with one more home run, though there are only two games remaining on their regular season schedule. Time is running out, but if Thursday is any indication — that record might not last the rest of the weekend.

The highlight of the game came during the top of the seventh inning. Anderson — the Huskers’ best slugger — was intentionally walked by Purdue. That allowed LF Gabe Swanson to step up to bat with two runners on base and crush a three-run home run to break what was a 2-2 tie. Anderson would find himself back up to the plate the following inning and joined in on the long ball party with a solo shot of his own.

After the game, Nebraska head coach Will Bolt told the Huskers Radio Network that he was proud of his team’s approach to the final innings and how his squad never wavered down the stretch. Bolt will need an equally strong performance from his offense if they want to head back to Lincoln with a sweep heading into the postseason.
