The Nebraska Cornhuskers announced their non-conference basketball schedule for the 2022-23 upcoming season that features a variety of opponents that head coach Fred Hoiberg believes will both prepare them for their conference schedule and be able to get them some big wins.

“There is no doubt that this non-conference schedule will prepare us for the Big Ten slate,” Hoiberg said. “We are playing in a great field in Orlando, where we could potentially face three high-caliber teams in four days, as well as the Gavitt Games matchup at St. John’s and against Boston College in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. When you add the annual matchup against Creighton, as well as a matchup in Kansas City against Kansas State, there are plenty of opportunities to earn quality wins. Our team is excited for the challenge ahead.”

The Huskers will open up the season with a trio of home games against Chardon State (Oct. 23), the University of Maine (Nov. 7), and Omaha (Nov. 10) before facing off against St. John’s in the Gavitt Tipoff Games in Queens, N.Y. on November 17, a talented team that acquired two transfers this offseason through the transfer portal.

The Huskers have one more home game following the Gavitt Tipoff Games against Arkansas Pine Bluff November 20 before taking part in the ESPN Invitational in Orlando from November 24-27. The matchups of this eight team tournament have not yet been announced, but will feature Florida State, Memphis, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Seton Hall, Siena, Stanford, and the Cornhuskers squad.

After the ESPN Invitational, Nebraska will face Boston College at home on November 30 as a part of the ACC/Big 10 challenge, followed by their annual matchup versus Creighton December 4 on the road. Then the Huskers will conclude their non-conference slate with a matchup at Kansas State December 17, followed by a home game versus Queens University of Charlotte December 20.

The Cornhuskers will be looking to get redemption on Creighton and Kansas State who both defeated them last season, as well as better performance in the ACC/Big 10 challenge where they lost all three of their matchups last season. Hopefully this season, they can handle business outside of the conference and carry that momentum into conference play.
