Scott Frost reveals message to team going forward following upset loss

Nebraska might have fallen to just 0-1 on the season, but they’ve dropped their last seven games dating back to last season. The Cornhuskers are a traditional football power, but haven’t made a bowl game in six years – the longest streak since the 1960s.

Head coach Scott Frost is surely aware of this fact, and is adamant to revert Nebraska back to its winning ways. The Cornhuskers did show flashes of what they are expected to be during their season-opening loss to Northwestern, but ended up blowing a second-half, two-score lead to the Wildcats.

Following the reality check, Frost noted that things have to change within Nebraska’s program sooner rather than later.

“It’s not gonna be one message, it’s going to have to be several,” Frost said. “We’ve just lost too many close games. These guys need something to believe in and we need to believe in ourselves as a team. I think they do. I don’t think there’s a guy in our locker room didn’t think we were gonna come win this game today. I’m sure they’ll think the same thing next week.”

Many are pointing fingers toward an onside kick call – that Frost has taken full responsibility of calling – that essentially began the Wildcat comeback and eventual victory. If those types of overly-aggressive calls are a thing of the past, Frost is expecting his guys to be just fine and continued to rave about his players despite the nail-biting loss.

“Culture. Leadership. Which is the best we’ve had. These guys need to do it for each other and they will. We got a really tight team,” Frost said. “Again, I can’t say enough about how they approached this game. The travel over and everything that they did. This is a tight group, the tightest group we’ve had and they’re gonna have to lean on that after a disappointing start.”

The Cornhuskers have a chance to redeem themselves when they battle North Dakota on Sept. 3 at home. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET live on the Big Ten Network.
