One of the common ways of introducing North Carolina freshman quarterback Drake Maye to an audience is by explaining who his brothers are. The star quarterback comes from an athletic family. His older brother Luke played basketball at North Carolina. Beau is currently on the North Carolina basketball team too. Then, there is Cole, who played baseball for Florida.

While speaking to the media, Drake Maye was asked if there was a brother who he emulated the most or gravitated toward instead of another.

“I think it’s kind of hard to really narrow it down to one,” Drake Maye said. “I think, you know, I could probably take one from each.”

“Probably the main characteristic from Luke is just work ethic. The way he works. Cole, I think just his personality. He keeps things light. Always fun to be around, he lights up the room. And, Beau, just the way he treats other people. No matter who it is, Beau cares about and asks about them. Just always good manners,” Drake Maye explained.

“Trying to take from each one of them and I think I try to emulate as much as I can from each one of them because those three, they’re my best friends and just the way they handle themselves is something that I admire.”

Both Luke and Cole won national championships in their respective sports in 2017.

Drake Maye on Heisman Trophy talk

With the outstanding season he’s been having, and as North Carolina has kept on winning, there has been talk that Drake Maye will be in Heisman contention. However, he isn’t thinking about that right now.

“I really haven’t sat down and really thought about it like that, we’ve still got a few weeks left, but obviously hearing my name in some of those conversations is a blessing, it’s a dream. I really haven’t sat down, I think I need to do more of that throughout the season, especially after a win,” Drake Maye said.
